Privacy Statement The Airmen’s Stories – S/Ldr. A M MacLachlan
Alan Moncrieff MacLachlan was born on 14th March 1911 and commissioned in the RAFO in May 1930. He resigned this commission in early 1935 and was granted one in 600 Squadron Auxiliary Air Force.
Called to full-time service on 24th August 1939, MacLachlan served as a Flight Commander in 600 Squadron. He was detached to HQ 11 Group on 25th March 1940 and relinquished his rank of Acting Squadron Leader on 18th May.
He later went to 7 OTU Hawarden for a refresher course and conversion to Spitfires.
On 26th September 1940 MacLachlan was attached to 92 Squadron at Biggin Hill as a supernumerary.
He took command of the squadron on 2nd October and was posted away on 25th October when S/Ldr. JA Kent arrived.
His subsequent service is currently undocumented until he was released from the RAF in 1945 as a Wing Commander.
