Privacy Statement The Airmen’s Stories – P/O A W V Green
Alexander William Valentine Green, of Craigavad, County Down joined the RAFVR as an Airman u/t Observer about June 1939. Called up on 1st September 1939, he completed his training at 4 BGS West Freugh, was commissioned in March 1940 and joined 235 Squadron on 19th March.
On 11th September 1940 Green was in Blenheim IV L9396 QY*E escorting Albacores of 826 (FAA) Squadron which were attacking a convoy off Calais.
The Blenheim was shot down into the Channel by Me109’s of 1./JG52 and III./JG53. Green, P/O PC Wickings-Smith and Sgt. RDH Watts were all lost.
Green was 21 . He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, panel 8.
