Privacy Statement The Airmen’s Stories – Sgt. H J R Barrow
Hector Jack Raymond Barrow from Isleworth, Middlesex, joined the RAFVR in April 1939 as an Airman u/t Pilot. Called up on 1st September he completed his training and joined 607 Squadron at Usworth in June 1940. In late July he was posted to 43 Squadron at Tangmere and was then attached to 6 OTU Aston Down for further training for the period 3rd to 24th August. He transferred on 20th September to 213 Squadron, then also at Tangmere.
On 27th September Barrow claimed a share in destroying a Me110.
He was reported ‘Missing’ following a Wing patrol with 602 Squadron over Tangmere on 28th November. His Hurricane, V6691, probably went into the sea and Barrow’s body washed up on the French coast.
He is buried in Colleville-sur-Mer churchyard, France, a short distance from Omaha Beach. He was 21.
